What’s New in 2021?

The Journal of Social and Political Psychology (JSPP) moved its online presence to a new platform, shared with other journals published by PsychOpen, and also changed its appearance. All new submissions are made through the new website, which offers a convenient workflow throughout the editorial process. We also have a new feature now that allows authors to share their manuscripts as soon as they are accepted for publication and before they are copyedited and published in an issue. Our list of forthcoming articles and available author-accepted manuscripts, as well as instructions for authors on how to make their manuscripts that were accepted for publication in JSPP available early access, can be found here: https://jspp.psychopen.eu/index.php/jspp/aam

We were fortunate to welcome Geetha Reddy (Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom) in 2021 as a new Associate Editor. Several of our Associate Editors also finished their terms as editors: Lucas Keefer (University of Southern Mississippi, USA), Sherianne Kramer (Amsterdam University College, The Netherlands) and Giovanna Leone (University of Roma, Italy) – we thank them all for their contributions to the journal over the last years! Our team now includes 28 editors located in 18 different countries on six continents (see https://jspp.psychopen.eu/index.php/jspp/editors).

We also welcomed several new members to our Editorial Board, which now includes 91 members from 41 countries. You can see the complete list of Editorial Board members here: https://jspp.psychopen.eu/index.php/jspp/ed-board

In line with our new page budget allocated by PsychOpen, Issue No 1 of 2021 includes 17 original research articles, two theoretical articles, and one commentary, as well as our editorial report, and Issue No 2 includes 18 original research articles and one theoretical article. Many thanks to all the authors!

Submission Numbers and Rejection Rate

In 2021, JSPP received 290 new submissions (compared to 235 in 2020, 186 in 2019, 148 in 2018, 101 in 2017, and 79 in 2016). 137 submissions (47.9%) were desk-rejected and an additional 39 (15.5%) were rejected after review. The average number of days to reject was 31. The average number of days to accept was 214.

Publications, Citations, and Download Statistics

To date, JSPP has published (not including our editorial articles) 311 peer-reviewed articles (39 of which were published in 2021). According to Google Scholar, these articles have been cited 6347 times (as of February 14, 2022) (see http://scholar.google.com/citations?user=knb2n1kAAAAJ).

The top ten most frequently downloaded articles (from the new website, as of February 14, 2022) are listed in Tables 1 and 2. Table 1 includes all articles that have been published so far in JSPP since its first issue. Table 2 shows only those articles published in 2021.
